When Jamie Lee Curtis asks you to moderate a conversation with her at SXSW, you say yes. You figure out the details later.
That's essentially what happened, and honestly? Best decision I ever made.
Because here's the thing about Jamie Lee Curtis: she's going to do her thing regardless, and her thing is extraordinary.
Over the course of an hour on stage at the JW Marriott in Austin, she turned what was billed as a keynote into something closer to a masterclass.
On manifesting (which, in her hands, means calling Jason Blum the day after an NPR story about a Paradise Fire bus driver stops you cold). On producing (she's been doing it her whole career, the credits just finally caught up). On Scarpetta, Nicole Kidman and saying "yes, queen" when the situation clearly calls for it.
One of the best parts of this job is getting to sit across from people who genuinely inspire you. Curtis is near the top of that list. She grabbed my hand on stage and I thought about the lonely kid who first saw her in My Girl, wishing she were his stepmother. He would not believe where he ended up.
Neither would she.

Victoria Pedretti Is Unapologetic in New Film ‘Forbidden Fruits’
Victoria Pedretti is not interested in playing it safe.
In Forbidden Fruits, she plays Cherry, a member of a witchy femme cult whose story is really about bodies, identity and what it means to trust. The film isn't for everyone, she'll tell you that herself. But the people who get it? They really get it.
I chatted with Pedretti about what it meant to put herself fully into this role, including the very deliberate choice to show her body on screen the way we almost never see bodies shown: as a normal human thing, not a sexualized one. She also talked about following her gut over a career plan, and what's coming next with her FX series Disinherited.
Pedretti is thoughtful, a little fierce and completely herself.

Tom Bombadil ‘Lord of the Rings’ Movie Will Have Tolkien Fans Nervous
Stephen Colbert is set to move from late-night to Middle-earth after it was announced he will be writing a new Lord of the Rings screenplay following a departure from his longtime talk show.
The news has caused excitement among many fans of J.R.R. Tolkien's stories, but some have reservations and fear that Colbert's best efforts—penned collaboratively with Peter McGee, Philippa Boyens and his screenwriter son, Peter Colbert—could flop, much like some of the later additions to the franchise like The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies and The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.
